Bullet For My Valentine: Temper temper

02/04/13  ||  Smalley

My mandatory AA review for the April edition is the new Bullet For My Valentine, and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the staffer who’s probably bugged K the most over the years gets saddled with a bunch of oft-reviled fuckos here; THIS IS A SETUP. But anyway, Mullet For My Clementine’s stuff here isn’t quite as irritating as some of the other, scattered metalcore I’ve accidentally heard over the years; it’s a little less hyperactive/frenetic with the random breakdowns as some of their peers are, they have some okay melodies here, and I’ve heard worse clean vocals from this genre before.

That being said, “Temper temper” is still below average (but of course it is with that album title, right?). Their riffs expectedly manage to be both wannabe “heavy” and toothless at the same time, they have those needless moments of screamo vocals annoyingly interspersed with the clean singing, and we still get some lame breakdowns/Gothenburg wannabe lead guitar/chuggahchuggah riffage, so they stick to the same bag of tricks as you’d expect, just done in a slightly less annoying manner. Some of it’s better than the rest, but still, the whole thing just isn’t my cup of tea in the first place, and while this isn’t as readily hateable as some of their peer bands, it’s definitely still dislikeable.

4,5/10: Avoid unless you’re just a massive, massive ‘core kid. But if you are, why are you reading GD in the first place?
